Reporting to the Academic Affairs Director, the Academic Affairs Manager is responsible for driving significant academic gains and ensuring college eligibility among students who are not on track to succeed in college. The Academic Affairs Manager identifies and manages a caseload of students who are not on track for college eligibility, creates individualized intervention plans, delivers programming that maximizes students' opportunities, choice, and power, and continuously monitors progress as it relates to students’ college access and success.
Additionally, this position is responsible for planning and managing an academic program focused on improving skill gaps that leads to significant gains in GPA, ACT/SAT and credit accumulation for targeted students that include executive functioning and noncognitive skills. This individual has direct accountability for meeting the organization’s bottom line goals in the following areas: academic readiness, GPA, college eligibility, attendance, and student retention.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Ensure College Eligibility of Students:
- Cultivate a strong college-going culture for all students
- Lead and support students who are not on track for college eligibility by facilitating weekly skill building workshops and self-directed learning coaching
- Create individualized intervention plans for each student, as needed, and continuously monitor progress
- Support the collection and reporting of student data i.e. GPA, test scores, student goals, progress towards goals, etc.
- Support Academic Affairs Director, as needed, with hiring and managing part-time academic coaches
- Support in managing external partnerships with curriculum providers, high school teachers and counselors, parents, and more
- High Quality Programming:
- Plan, manage, and continuously improve an academic program designed to enhance student skills and drive significant gains in all academic areas: GPA, ACT/SAT, math acceleration, course rigor and credit accumulation.
- Stay up to date regarding best practices by participating in professional development, including those provided by the National Program Design team
- Implement year-round programming to ensure that students earn a 3.0 or higher GPA and reach college eligibility and college readiness goals
- Use data to lead decision making processes and provide the site-team with formal updates on student progress
- Partner with the Academic Affairs Director to plan academic support for students
- Collaborate with the site team to implement academic programs and evaluate potential resources to ensure alignment with student needs
- Family and School Engagement:
- Collaborate with schools, families, and stakeholders to develop improvement plans to ensure student success
- Supporting family conferences regarding progress towards College Track expectations
- Develop strong relationships with teachers and counselors and act as a resource for students and parents in regards to IEPs and 504 plans, school conferences and grade collection
- Support site-wide projects such as student recruitment, class retreats, and other collaborative initiatives.
Skills & Experience Required
First and foremost, the Academic Affairs Manager (AAM) must embrace the College Track vision of transforming low-income communities into places where college readiness and college graduation are the norms. The AAM must be committed to the mission of College Track and committed to anti-racist and pro-Black pedagogy. Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum 3+ years of teaching students and/or facilitating learning or school counseling; history of driving significant gains in student achievement
- Minimum 4-year college degree
- Spanish verbal and written proficiency, required
- Valid CA driver's license and ability to pass College Track’s driver clearance process and transport students
- Strong sense of possibility; approaches new challenges with optimism. Holds the highest expectations for students
- Skilled at relationship building with students, families and schools. Builds relationships and communicates in ways that foster trust, display cultural competence, and value differences and further College Track’s mission
- Demonstrated success in analyzing student data and developing targeted, data driven interventions
- Desire to understand each individual’s barrier to success and experience in creating individualized action plans
- Manages people, project and oneself to achieve excellent results and expand organizational impact
- Focuses on delivering outcomes despite obstacles, seeks out challenges as opportunities to grow, takes unexpected setbacks in stride, and is able to galvanize self towards goals and impact
- Passion for and experience with Self-Directed Learning and reflective listening strategies to cultivate student self-efficacy, planning, and persistence - strongly preferred
