Position Summary

The Audiologist provides non-medical management of the auditory and vestibular systems, including evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. New York State Professional Licensing Standards and Practice Guidelines of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association guide the practice of the Audiologist.

Essential Position Functions:

In order to provide quality patient care, maintain patient satisfaction and meet regulatory requirements, the Audiologist is responsible for the following duties:

Administration and interpretation of all diagnostic testing including comprehensive audiological evaluations, immittance measurements, unsedated and sedated ABR testing in the OR, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), videonystagmography (VNG), and bedside audiometric testing for inpatients.
Providing appropriate counseling of patients of all ages, newborn through adults, from all socio-economic backgrounds.
Performing hearing aid evaluations with special attention to the total hearing health and communication needs of the patients.
Performing hearing aid fittings and patient-centered follow-up care.
Performing Baha evaluations in conjunction with the physician, and executing Baha fittings and follow-up as needed.
Consultation and fitting of custom ear plugs, including instant swim molds and noise protection.
Interacting with all members of the inter-disciplinary health team to promote continuity and excellence in patient care.
Keeping appropriate patient care notes and records, and attending to this in a timely manner.
Performing internal and external public education functions as required.
Returning phone calls to patients, their families and referring physicians promptly.
Managing and prioritizing tasks and duties, in a way that accommodates frequent interruptions or schedule changes.

Other Duties:

Ensuring all equipment in testing and consultation rooms is cleaned, disinfected and properly set up prior to each patient encounter.
Cleaning and restocking examining rooms for the days use.
Assists in maintaining all clinical equipment to include calibration, if applicable. Reporting any equipment damage or issues in a timely fashion to the Practice Manager and/or Medical Director of Audiology.
Reading patients charts for the days visit.
Preparing all reports for availability to physicians. Ensuring they are screened and signed prior to filing in medical record.
Answering clinical mail for the physicians in a timely manner when required.
Ordering and tracking of all hearing aids and accessories for sale or service, including verifying receipt of these devices and managing packing slips and/or invoices accordingly.

Administrative Duties:

Documenting telephone calls accurately in medical record.
Maintaining strict confidentiality.
Performing other duties as required.

Supervisory Duties:

Supervision of Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) students as applicable and as outlined in the contract agreement set forth between Oneida Healthcare and the educational facility.


Position Requirements:

Successful completion of an accredited Doctor of Audiology program.
NYS Licensure in Audiology and NYS Licensure Hearing Aid Dispensing.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) issued by the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) of ASHA, preferred.
Discipline to work in accordance with accepted clinical and ethical standards.
Comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, maintenance of clinical skills and certifications, etc.
Excellent interpersonal skills in working with patients, families, vendors and members of the inter-disciplinary health team.
General computer skills to include use of electronic medical record, scheduling system and generation of reports as needed.
