Job Summary

The University Diversity Officer (UDO) will oversee and lead new strategies and facilitate implementation of plans to systematically address diversity, equity, and inclusion across all domains of the university and in alignment with the Rush University System of Health core values: innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence.
Job Responsibilities
Elevates the strategic vision for diversity and inclusion across the University influencing all aspects of the university strategic plan to create a dynamic environment that fulfills the teaching, learning, scholarship, and service objectives at Rush.
Advances diversity, equity, and inclusion across the University by creating defined goals and outcomes.
Coordinates University strategies and programs per Racial Justice Action Committee (RJAC) recommendations to "Be the CHANGE."
Supports and expands the recruitment, development, and retention of a diverse faculty, staff, and student body and promotes greater access and inclusion through systemic and structural change.
Addresses diversity, equity, and inclusion knowledge and education at every level of the University.
In collaboration with the Rush Institute for Health Equity, creates and implements a thread of core competencies imbedded in every degree program that addresses diversity, equity and inclusion, including awareness of and solutions for systemic racism, social justice, and works towards developing graduate degree programs in these areas.
Identifies endowment and scholarship opportunities to support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Creates a framework and guidance in research-related functions.
Engages students in a trusted, meaningful framework within the University student affiliation groups and other forums to address student concerns and create the change they are seeking.
Builds a culture and infrastructure that enables a transparent, data-driven approach for continuous improvement.
In collaboration with the Provost, exercises the administrative and operational authority to commit institutional resources, enforce polices and lead necessary administrative action to ensure that Rush University is continually on the leading edge.
Speaks up to advance the highest goals and aspirations of the University.
Provides an interface with vital external community organizations and resources for purposes of bidirectional and shared educational and research opportunities.
Ensures robust relationships with community colleges and Chicago Public Schools, with an emphasis on the partnership with Malcolm X College.
Works with university and health system leadership to address local, state, and federal policy.
Required
Job Qualifications
MD or PhD required
Extensive knowledge in the field of diversity science including understanding of unconscious bias, micro and macro aggressions, social justice, and multiculturalism.
Familiarity with or engagement in scholarly activities such as research, publishing, and assessment and significant knowledge of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion required.
Proven ability to provide visionary strategic leadership.
Experience
Guiding the implementation of a strategic plan, establishing metrics, measuring progress, and adapting as necessary as the organization and culture evolve.
Strong relationship skills with faculty, students, and staff to create the trust, networks, and infrastructure for success.
Ability to engage stakeholders at all levels including university and college leadership, faculty, students, staff, alumni, and leadership of the health system.
Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
Analytical skills and data-driven focus; ability to use data and leverage analytics to drive strategic planning and change management.
Ability and willingness to approach tasks with a spirit of collaboration in order to problem solve with peers and customers.
