Academic Obstetrician/Gynecologist

Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario invites applications for two geographic full time positions of academic General Obstetrician/Gynecologist with appropriate experience. The successful candidates will join the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton. The current McMaster complement of twenty generalists offers care in Obstetrics and Gynecology for the City of Hamilton, LHINs 3 and 4 (Waterloo Wellington, Hamilton Niagara, Haldimand and Brant) covering a region of 30,000 deliveries per year. These positions will have staggered start dates, with one starting October 1, 2021 and the second starting July 1, 2022.

The successful academic generalist OB/GYNs will have training and experience in obstetrics and gynecology. Special consideration will be given to candidates with additional postgraduate training beyond a residency program, such as fellowship, masters or other advanced degree. The successful candidates are expected to have experience and commitment to teaching all levels of learners, including medical students, residents and clinical fellows, and will provide leadership and training to future physicians.

The candidates will be expected to fully participate in all appropriate departmental and divisional administrative and educational activities. Candidates must have demonstrated capability and interest in research and show evidence of a history of research productivity to align with the departmental academic mission and vision.

These two full time faculty positions for a period of three years (renewable). Candidates interested in a job-sharing position are also encouraged to apply. Job-share candidates will be reviewed on their individual merits and are not able to apply as a job-share “team”. Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Salary is composed of, largely, fee-for-service activities.
